Meet Jeff & Melanie Dalton- Owners & Creators of das Hinterhaus

Hey, hey! We’re Jeff and Melanie Dalton. We’re the proud parents of these three expensive kiddos and one giant dog named Klaus. Jeff makes a living sitting at a computer all day and Mel spends hers at 30K feet in the air- he’s in IT and she’s a fearless flight attendant. Since we don’t have much going on (wink, wink)…we decided to build this greenhouse out back. Why not? After all, it’s been a dream of Mel’s for sometime. She’s a plant lover, photographer (find her at www.MelanieDalton.com) and admirer of all things old and mismatched so a greenhouse seemed like the perfect fit. A place to relax and unwind, propagate plants, display Mel’s estate sale finds and, most importantly, make beautiful images!

We settled on the name das Hinterhaus because the German language has been a steady constant in our lives. When Jeff and Mel met, Mel was flying as a German speaker to Frankfurt every weekend- she got her degree in German literature (shouldn’t everyone, lol). Our kids attended the German school of Atlanta until the world went virtual. Our outdoor tub sits out in our Biergarten and, not to be forgotten, our favorite, above mentioned child is named Klaus- Herr Klaus if we’re being super formal. We joked that the greenhouse was Klaus’s house. Jeff was set on naming it just that, Mel not so much. Instead, we settled on das Hinterhaus, which translates literally to “the house behind”. It’s a little house behind our house, and we’re excited to share it with our community.
